Prizren, 04 August 2009 - The eighth edition of Dokufest, the international documentary and short film festival, was officially opened on 3 August in Prizren. In addition to being the largest film related event in Kosovo, Dokufest is also one of the most popular cultural and art events, bringing together artists from all over Kosovo, the region and beyond. Films are shown in two open air and indoor cinemas, but the festival has much more in its offering, such as youth parties, various workshops, photography exhibitions, camping and other activities.

The European Commission Liaison Office to Kosovo is one of the main sponsors of the festival. The office will have the honour of handing the Best Balkans Documentary prize in the closing night. The main reason why the EC Liaison Office has chosen Dokufest for sponsorship for the second year in a row is due to the festival's integrated approach, including many side activities. The intercultural and the regional dimension of Dokufest is also a very important feature, which is in line with the principles of European Union's involvement in Kosovo and the wider region.
