Tyler Pitlick, who got had a lower-body injury is out for the season with; Drake Caggiula was pulled out in Game 2 with an injury but is hopeful of play on Sunday. The Anaheim Ducks have been off since last Thursday, awaiting the victor of the Sharks-Oilers series after sweeping the Calgary Flames last week.
"Just smart rest away from the rink and good habits and a good work ethic", Talbot said. Talbot played in an NHL-high 73 games and is the man between the pipes in the playoffs.
The Ducks took a hostile crowd out of the game early and took the Oilers out of it late by scoring three goals in the first period and three goals down the stretch en route to a convincing 6-3 Game 3 victory at Rogers Place.
While the Ducks were prioritizing their shutdown of McDavid, they created opportunities for other players on the team. Due to injuries, Cam Fowler missed the entire series and Sami Vatanen only played in one of four games.
Oilers winger Milan Lucic had been steamed at Ducks defenders all game after some rough play. I thought had we come in here (to the locker room) with a three-goal lead, everybody's feeling good and doing the same thing.
Game 3 is today in Nashville, Tennessee.
"Obviously, with our defense, we have a lot of defensemen that can move their feet, find open lanes and shift and skate and turn and be deceptive in terms of protecting the puck", said Subban.More news: Arsenal handed massive injury boost ahead of Man United clash
The Oilers kept coming in the second period. Gibson tried to knife it away with the blade of his stick but the puck still had enough on it to end up in the net 6:41 into the second period for a 2-0 lead. Talbot was the difference in Game 2, making all manner of impressive saves while Anaheim dominated the last 30 minutes. He also had the game-tying and game-winning goals, as the Anaheim Ducks won in overtime, en route to a series sweep. Rinne blanked the Blues after Alexander Steen scored with about seven minutes left in the second period.
Jakob Silfverberg, who scored twice and added an assist, said it was all about getting traffic in front of Talbot. Cam Talbot has given up 16 goals on 241 shots faced and Laurent Brossoit has allowed two goals on eight shots. And while past stats don't necessarily predict the future, it's at least worth noting this is the eighth time in franchise history that the Ducks have fallen behind 2-0 in a series.
"We'll learn from this and take Game 4 on", said Oilers forward Patrick Maroon.
Edmonton's first playoff appearance in 11 years is off to a rollicking start, with the Oilers following up their six-game defeat of defending Western Conference champion San Jose by taking two games from the five-time champions of their division. The Ducks also killed off two penalties. The Ducks have not scored an even strength goal since the third period of Game 1, which is a major concern. The goal that Gibson surrendered to Andrej Sekera early in Game 2 was one that an National Hockey League goalie has to stop. The Captain got the puck all the way from below the defensive goal line all the way to the far blue line. We knew we were in a real dogfight then.
Edmonton coach Todd McLellan believes Draisaitl's role as a support player for McDavid should not reduce the attention Draisaitl deserves as one of the game's developing stars.
Though Draisaitl won't acknowledge it, part of the reason for his production against the Ducks likely comes from the decision to play him on the wing with centre Connor McDavid this season.
