Stephen Curry wasn't trying to be a hero. As we've noted here, Steve Kerr is ailing, and will not coach in tonight's game.
"We knew if we threw the first punch, we knew that it would overwhelm them a bit, especially being up 3-0", Durant said. "We were locked in and the guys were just focused on closing the job out". In the first [quarter] we didn't let them score for a while and we turned our defense into offense. We've had certain situations all year (and) previous years where players are down and you've got the "next man up" philosophy.
Lillard was asked after the Game 4 loss to Golden State whether the Warriors were the benchmark for what the Blazers aspire to be.
Curry bombed in 37 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds despite sitting out the entire fourth quarter. Klay Thompson chipped in 18 points.
In the midst of the sobering news about Kerr, the Warriors got a boost with the return of Durant for the final game of the series after he injured his left calf in Game 1.
Draymond Green added 21 and David West scored 12 off the bench. The Warriors now await either the Los Angeles Clippers or Utah Jazz, whose series was tied at two games apiece. The time off should do wonders for the Warriors.
Matt Barnes (right ankle/foot sprain), and Shaun Livingston (right index finger sprain) were also out for the Warriors.
Durant got hurt at the end of February. The Warriors' star point guard played his most dominant game of the series.More news: Punjab beats RCB to keep play-off hopes alive
Golden State finished atop the conference this season with the best overall record in the National Basketball Association (67-15). The Warriors can beat the Blazers without him. The Warriors, as a team, were an offensive machine with all five starting players scoring double figures. That's why even though Durant didn't need to play in Game 4, the actual game experience alone should be beneficial to his play later on in the playoffs. Warrior coach Steve Kerr, still ailing from the effects of back problems, watched the game on television from the team's locker room.
There's not much a team can do when this is going down.
Specific details about Kerr's condition have been scarce and the cause of the illness is not yet known.
Brown is in a rare opportunity to replace Kerr for as long as necessary and feel the rush of leading a championship caliber team into battle.
Brown said the break will do the Warriors good.
"He didn't do any further damage", Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts said, per the Oregonian's Mike Richman.
"I think about when the Pistons were just beating up on Jordan and kicking his butt every year and he had to get through them if he wanted to get to where he wanted to get to", Lillard said. "I think they're playing with a goal considering what happened a year ago".
