But if we talk about revenue, in 2016, China, U.S., Japan, South Korea, and United Kingdom alone accounted for 75 percent of app store revenue. Right now, an app can not change the icon on its own without user permission, which is effected by a notification pane.
"What a lot of people don't realize is how huge China is", Danielle Levitas, senior VP of research at App Annie, said.
It's worth noting that these revenues figures don't include in-app purchases or other money spent inside apps - such as purchases on eCommerce apps.
The downloads from mobile apps will see a growth rate of 19 percent from 2016 to 2021. "Apps are creating an intimate, highly-personalized environment for brands to engage with users".

This report comes via App Annie, and this estimate includes not just the Google Play Store, but third party Android stores too.
"iOS will remain the most lucrative app store through 2021, generating $60.3 billion, thanks to growing revenue per device from Apple's comparatively affluent customer base", the report states. App Annie has confirmed that the app downloads are distributed evenly around the globe, but the revenue generated from them is a different factor. They have attributed for 54 percent downloads in 2016. For mature markets, users are increasingly engaging with, and spending on, apps. For 2017, the analytical firm says that Android apps will outsell iOS apps for the first time ever.
In contrast, other Android markets will register as much as 61 billion downloads in 2017, up from 55 billion a year ago.
There are over two million apps in iTunes, but hundreds of thousands of these apps haven't been updated in years. Even though, there will be consistency in the revenue growth. The bulk of that revenue will come from Android, as all Android stores combined will leapfrog Apple's App Store. It could only take the lead when third-party downloads are also valued. Google Play, on its own, is expected to deliver a little more than half that in 2017 - $21 billion. They removed 50000 apps from store in October. This would continue much through 2021.
