Undefeated Golovkin is widely considered the best middleweight on the planet but can go some way to cementing his legacy with victory over Jacobs, who has lost just one of his 33 fights. The Kazakh won 115-112 on two judges' cards and 114-113 on the other. According to Jacobs, Golovkin is just a "simple man" that can be hurt, and he plans on doing just that tonight when the two fight each other on HBO pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden in NY.
"After the knockdown I told him (he) had to kill me (to beat me)", said Jacobs. Though perhaps a loss to the best in the division is of little consolation, Jacobs exceeded expectations as many fans felt that Golovkin would stop Jacobs.

How did you score it?
Daniel Jacobs predictions have been tallied, and the stories of Golovkin's rise to global marketing star and Jacobs' courageous fight against cancer have been told. RBRBoxing scored the fight 115-112 for Golovkin as well. I do think that this is ideal timing for me. This is a fight he should easily win and this will be the beginning of a career that Top Rank expects to take off very early. With a spotless record, exciting style and devastating power, the one thing Golovkin seems to lack is enough willing opposition. Jacobs did not show up for his IBF-mandated weight check this morning and can not win that belt, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reports.More news: IRON FIST Episode Four Recap: A Line in the Sand
Jacobs is bigger and faster than Golovkin and hits harder than numerous Kazakh's previous victims.
"I understand my position in the game, in this fight", he says of his underdog status. Jacobs, meantime, swollen and bruised, said he thought he won the fight but would be moving on regardless if a rematch opportunity was on the table. Jacobs only sporadically attacked Golovkin.
Pain is something Jacobs had to deal with throughout his struggle against a tumor discovered on his spine six years ago, a 19-month ordeal that cost him more than a year and a half of his promising career.
He had no such distractions entering the Golovkin fight. The fighter can weigh no more than 10 pounds over the fight's weight limit. He also hired former WBO super lightweight champion Chris Algieri as his nutritionist and chef for this training camp.
Jacobs' personal life was dealt another cruel blow one year later when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a life-threatening form of bone cancer. He retained his IBF title before the bout started because Jacobs couldn't fight for it after missing the IBF's mandatory second-day weigh-in.
