The Bulls, who a source said pushed for Andre Roberson in the deal, also agreed to send a 2018 second-round pick to the Thunder.
The Thunder have been on the prowl for some added shooting all season.
McDermott is expected to boost an outside shooting attack that ranks 29th in 3-point shooting. Gibson's strengths are post defense and rebounding.
Oklahoma City gives up Cameron Payne and center Joffrey Lauvergne according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. The Bulls' onus now moves to the off-season, where they'll again be faced with the possibility of a Butler trade come draft-time. A 31 percent career 3-point shooter isn't going to get it done for the Bulls at the point guard spot.
With a little more than 12 hours remaining until the National Basketball Association trade deadline - Thursday at 2 p.m. CT - the Bulls' roster remains intact. The roster is threadbare, weighed down by a bargain bin of dubious point guards. Payne missed a large portion of the season after suffering a foot injury and Semaj Christon was passable behind Westbrook during that time. And for whatever reasons - from the weather to management's player-unfriendly reputation lingering since the Jordan-Pippen years - Chicago is not a reliably appealing free-agent destination. Morrow will back up, too. Morrow is the only real outside threat the Bulls received from the trade.

Oklahoma City has been criticised for not putting enough help around their franchise star over the course of the season. He's not purely a shooter, either.
Just two years ago, McDermott was deemed a major piece of the core going forward. "The initial thought is why do it right before the trade deadline, but Magic came in and we got to work right away".
The deal gets worse for Chicago when one considers what they gave up to land McDermott in the first place: two first-rounders and three second-rounders. In order to hold onto the exceptions, the Thunder had to maneuver this deal a little differently than what's obvious.
Sam Presti has been criticized for his moves in the past on the trade market, but this certainly won't be one of them. But by the end, they wouldn't own either of those exceptions anymore. In exchange for Tucker, the Raptors traded out Jared Sullinger and second-round draft picks.
Gibson, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, is averaging 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
If you want to talk yourself into Taj aging gracefully, I would point out that Taj didn't enter the league until he was 24 years old, so he hasn't logged as many games and minutes as the typical 32 year old. After playing the league's third-hardest schedule so far, it will be a nice downhill run for a team getting healthy and ready for another playoff assault.
