Shoppers from across South Florida hit the malls in what some analysts believe could be a record breaking Black Friday.

The Holiday shopping season officially begins the day after Thanksgiving.

Shoppers at Chicago-area stores said crowds were bigger Thursday night than Friday morning.

Crowds were thin at USA malls and stores on Black Friday morning, formerly the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, and online channels were expected to show the strongest gains in sales over previous year. The retailer said that Target.com saw double-digit growth on Thanksgiving, driven by deals on electronics like televisions and Apple products. You would think they wouldn't be good any more because they've been on sale for years. While many argue that they simply spread out sales, others point to the fact that certain shoppers only head out that day - meaning a retailer that's closed could lose out on sales.

For brick-and-mortar retailers, the challenge is to draw more shoppers into their stores on a chaotic day often marred by long lines and crowded parking lots. Stores like Macy's, Walmart, Target and more were open Thursday evening in what they hope will be a new holiday tradition as they try to fight off competition from online juggernaut Amazon.

"It's better than coming in the store". On Monday, November 28, the online retailer will offer some wonderful deals, perhaps even better than their Black Friday sale.

Best friends Tara Schrieber and Alisa Cravey are cashing in on the retail holiday and call themselves "the Black Friday boss". "It just gets you in the spirit and ready to go", said Anne Hughes. "There's just certain places that you walk into and they just have awesome deals", Ms. Pastrell said. "Whoever's got the best deals, that's where I go".

The term "Black Friday" was coined in the 1960s to mark the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season. Thanksgiving Day, rather than the day afterward, has become the start of the holiday shopping season in a shift that delights some and disgusts others. According to CNN, "Amazon Prime members, who pay $99 a year, will get early access to Lightning Deals".

"The variety of things you can actually get!" said Ruth Mariscal.

"If the deals are there, I'll be there", Heckman said. Video Games like Fallout 4, WWE 2K1 will also be getting 50% discount while there is also $50 off on Playstation 4 Slim 500GB Console for the gamers. That compares with 21 percent who said they would shop on Thanksgiving Day.

By Thanksgiving evening, online spending by U.S shoppers reached $1.13 billion for the day, according to Adobe Digital Index, surging nearly 14 percent from a year ago. "The prices, you know, come down for people like me ..."

Across the industry, retailers released advertisements of their biggest deals three days sooner this year on average than last, according to Market Track LLC, which analyzed emails, social media and retail websites. The throng swelled Friday, a day forever associated with endless lines and stampede-like rushes for bargain deals.

But just how much profit are retailers missing out on by not opening their doors on Thanksgiving?

For many shoppers, Black Friday will continue until stores close at 10 p.m. or later. Deals will also be available on Amazon devices as well. Consumers will be surprised to find new deals every five minutes on different items.
