With December just around the corner, all greyhound racing enthusiasts will be focusing their attention on the Romford Greyhound Stadium in anticipation of the Essex Vase competition.
This year the final takes place on Wednesday 7 December, but as always the greyhound betting speculation will begin well in advance with the heats taking place in late November and the semi-finals on 2 December.
The Essex Vase competition has been running since 1939 and is one of the premier annual greyhound racing events that has seen celebrated champions like Eye on the Veto join the racing hall of fame.
Last year proved to be yet another phenomenal race with Adageo Bob sprinting home in a very impressive time of 35.05. What made Adageo Bob’s Essex Vase success all the more important was the fact that the greyhound was coming to the end of a great four and a half year career and this win was his biggest and best year.
But in terms of this year’s Essex Vase final, it’s still too early to guess who will win this acclaimed greyhound racing title. As always, Coral provide the best place to bet on greyhound racing as their knowledgeable tipsters deliver a comprehensive overview of all of the latest news, and it will be interesting to see who they tip to win this 575m race.More news: Trump opponents try to beat him at the Electoral College
It will be also be fascinating to see whether the greyhound breeder, Mark Wallis, will make another strong showing at the 2016 Essex Vase. Wallis runs the highly respected Imperial Kennels and has already had past Essex Vase successes with the likes of Adageo Bob, the two-time winner Eye on the Veto, and 2013’s champion Reel Trickyone.
But anyone who remembers 2012’s winner, Star Cash Simon, racing to victory despite the 20-1 outside odds knows that this highly-charged event always has the potential to provide lucrative opportunities for the outside bet.
Whatever happens on the track, it’s clear that 7 December will once again cement Romford Greyhound Stadium’s reputation as being the best racecourse in the country. Since the closure of Walthamstow Stadium in 2007, Romford has been one of the best remaining places to see the greatest greyhound racing.
And with plenty of other intriguing competitions lined up that include the likes of the Coronation Cup in January and the Rosebowl Final in June, there will be plenty of opportunity for some fascinating greyhound betting in the coming months.
